In the summer of 2007, Dr. Courtney Tollison of the Upcountry History Museum and Furman University and Don Koonce of Ferncreek Creative researched, recorded, and preserved 32 oral histories with the World War II generation.

Koonce and Tollison used excerpts from select oral histories and a few dozen historic photographs, worked with a local scriptwriter, and hired a nationally known narrator out of Virginia. They combined the interviews and photographs with B-roll footage and music from the 1940s, and the result is a 24 minute video documentary on Upcountry South Carolina during this war. This work, now a national award winning documentary, presents the story of Upcountry residents’ contributions to the war effort, military and home front, while examining the way this region was impacted by the war.
