William Washington: American Light Dragoon

Perhaps America’s finest cavalry commander, Lt. Col. William Washington fought with distinction in the Northern and Southern Campaigns, including some of the most memorable battles ever fought in South Carolina. After the American Revolution, he continued his military career before becoming a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives.

Durant Ashmore is a native South Carolinian, battlefield preservationist, and American Revolutionary War historian. He has generously presented numerous times at the Museum and throughout the Upcountry area, nearly selling out each and every lecture.
